Singtel Used a Panda AR Head Effect to Attract Passers By with qiksense


The Challenge

Singtel participates in multiple exhibitions, roadshows and retail events throughout the year. For each event, the brand looks for new ways to capture attention and encourage people to visit its booth.

In a previous activation, Singtel used qiksense to launch a Spin the Wheel campaign at its event booths. The campaign was subsequently scaled from events to Singtel’s retail stores.

For Singapore Retail Festival 2026, Singtel wanted to introduce a new way to attract people walking past its booth at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza. The festival featured a rotating line-up of brands and interactive experiences at its main festival grounds.

The booth followed the theme “hi! brings you to China”, supporting Singtel’s message around travelling and staying connected in China. Inspired by Chengdu, the experience featured a panda visual that connected directly with the destination theme.

Singtel needed an interactive attraction that could:

  • Capture the attention of people walking past
  • Encourage them to stop in front of the booth
  • Connect naturally with the China and Chengdu theme
  • Introduce the campaign message in an engaging way
  • Guide visitors into the play and win activity

The challenge was to attract passing footfall before asking visitors to participate in a game.

The Solution

To achieve this, Singtel used the qiksense platform to build an interactive campaign journey beginning with the Attract module.

Instead of immediately showing visitors a game or promotional message, the experience first displayed a live view of people walking past the booth with a panda AR head effect placed over their heads.

The unexpected visual encouraged people to notice the screen, recognise themselves and stop to take a closer look.

Attract Module: AR Effect (Head)

Using the qiksense Attract module, Singtel created a live AR experience based on the Chengdu panda theme.

As people walked past the screen, the camera detected them and displayed a wearable panda effect over their heads. They did not need to touch the screen or begin the experience manually.

Seeing themselves transformed on screen created an immediate moment of curiosity and surprise. This helped the digital display become an active attraction rather than a static promotional screen.

Once a person stopped in front of the display, the campaign introduced the “Play & Win Exciting Prizes” message and guided them into the next stage of the journey.

Turning Attention into Participation

After the AR head effect captured their attention, the campaign transitioned automatically into an interactive Spin the Wheel game.

Visitors could spin the wheel for an opportunity to win prizes. Once the wheel stopped, the result was immediately revealed before the experience returned to the panda AR screen for the next person walking past.

The complete journey was:

See yourself with the panda AR effect → Stop at the booth → Play Spin the Wheel → View the reward

This allowed Singtel to turn attention into participation through one continuous experience.

The Result

Using qiksense, Singtel created an interactive attraction that helped its booth stand out and gave people walking past an immediate reason to stop.

Attracting Attention Through AR

The panda AR head effect captured attention before visitors were asked to play a game or read a promotional message.

By allowing people to see themselves wearing an unexpected AR effect, Singtel created a more natural entry point into the activation. The interaction connected with the China and Chengdu theme while helping the campaign message become more visible and memorable.

From Passing Footfall to Active Engagement

Once visitors stopped to view the AR effect, the campaign guided them into the play and win experience.

This allowed the screen to support the complete engagement journey, from attracting people walking past to encouraging participation and revealing an instant reward.

Creating New Experiences with qiksense Modules

Singtel was able to introduce a fresh booth experience by adding the Attract module before its familiar Spin the Wheel mechanic.
