Popper Asia Created a Pedal-Powered Lights Out Challenge for Audi and adidas with qiksense
The Challenge
Creative agency Popper Asia created the Lights Out Challenge for its clients Audi and adidas at Off The Grid, their motorsport pop-up in the Level 1 Atrium of Funan during Grand Prix Season Singapore 2026. Alongside the Audi Revolut F1 Team show car and a Singapore-inspired fanwear collection, the pop-up ran a stamp journey of race-themed stations, and the Lights Out Challenge was its race-inspired reaction game. Every fan who played earned a Team Pass stamp.
It is not the first time Popper Asia has used qiksense. Popper Asia previously built an F1 commentary booth for beIN SPORTS, created a Coconut White Coffee Scream Challenge for FairPrice and powered a Sunset Vibe music booth for Aperol Spritz.
Popper Asia needed an experience that could:
- Tie in with Formula 1 during the race season
- Work as a quick station on the pop-up's stamp journey
- Give every player a result to take away, saved on their phone and ready to share on social media

The Solution
To achieve this, Popper Asia used the qiksense platform as the software behind a customised Lights Out reaction game, played with a foot pedal on the floor in front of the screen. The game kept the Audi look of the pop-up, from the race track backdrop to the Audi typeface.
The experience followed a simple journey:
- Fans stepped up to the screen and stepped on the pedal to start
- A 3, 2, 1 countdown ran and five red lights came on, one by one
- The moment all five lights went out, they stamped on the pedal as fast as they could
- The screen showed their reaction time in milliseconds, with a line on how they did
- A QR code on the same screen let them save their result on their phone
- Another step on the pedal started a new attempt for a quicker time

Engage Module: Lights Out Reaction Game
The Lights Out format recreates the start of a Formula 1 race. The lights come on one at a time, hold for a moment, then all go out at once, and the clock starts at that exact instant. Fans had to react as fast as they could without moving too early.
Popper Asia set the game up to feel like a real start:
- Five lights, one second apart, the rhythm of a real Formula 1 start
- A pause before the lights go out that changes every round, so nobody can learn the timing
- A jump-start rule, so anyone who stamped while a light was still on saw a too early screen instead of a time
- A beep for every light and an engine rev on a valid reaction
Because the pause changed every round, fans could not guess the moment. They had to watch the lights, which is exactly what a real race start asks of a driver.

A Physical Pedal Instead of a Touch Screen
Most reaction games ask players to tap a screen or press a button. At Off The Grid, fans used their feet. A foot pedal sat on the floor in front of the screen, and every control in the game pointed to it. Fans stepped on the pedal to start, stepped on it the moment the lights went out, and stepped on it again to try for a quicker time.
The Lights Out format works with a simple tap, and it can also take a physical button or a foot pedal assigned to the game. Here the pedal turned a screen game into something much closer to a driver's start, much like pressing the pedal in a real car.

Reward Module: Reaction Time Saved to the Phone
Straight after each round, the screen showed the player's reaction time in milliseconds with a short line that changed with the result, such as "That's a solid reaction!". A QR code beside it let players save their result. Scanning it opened the result on their own phone, ready to download and share.

A jump start led to a too early screen, and a round without a press led to a no reaction screen, so every time on the screen came from a genuine reaction.

The Result
Using qiksense, Popper Asia gave fans at Off The Grid a quick and physical way to test their reactions against the start lights, as one of the stations on the pop-up's stamp journey during Grand Prix Season Singapore.
A Race Start Fans Could Feel
The foot pedal made the game feel closer to a real start than a tap on a screen. Fans stood at the screen, watched the lights and reacted with their feet, which suited a pop-up built around the Audi Revolut F1 Team.
A Quick Station on the Stamp Journey
Each round took only a few seconds, from the countdown to the reaction time, so fans could play, see their time, earn their Team Pass stamp and move on to the next station. Those who wanted a better time could step on the pedal and go again.
A Result Fans Could Take Home
The QR code turned a few seconds at the booth into a result on the player's own phone. Fans left the pop-up with their reaction time saved, ready to compare and share with friends.
